Setting Up a Multi-Party Signing Order That Works

Not every multi-signer document needs a strict sequence. If it doesn't matter who signs first, sending to everyone simultaneously is usually faster and simpler. Sequential signing is worth the added complexity only when one signature genuinely needs to precede another, for example, an employee signing before a manager countersigns.

When a signing order is in place, later signers are effectively waiting on earlier ones. It helps to communicate this directly, so someone third in line understands why their signature request hasn't arrived yet rather than assuming something went wrong.

Building in reminders for each stage of the sequence, rather than only for the very end, keeps a slow signer from silently stalling the entire document.

Have a clear path for reassigning a signature request if the original person becomes unavailable partway through a sequence. Without this, one unresponsive signer can indefinitely block everyone after them in the order.
