Building a Lead Capture Form That Converts

DT Form Team

Ask for less than feels comfortable

Every field beyond email and one qualifying question is a bet that the information is worth the drop-off it causes. That bet is often wrong, particularly at the top of a funnel where the goal is simply to open a conversation.

Fields like phone number and company size can usually be collected later, once someone has already shown intent by submitting the first, lighter form.

The qualifying question matters more than people think

One well-chosen question, such as company size or use case, can do more for lead quality than five additional fields, because it lets a team prioritize follow-up without adding friction for everyone.

Keep this question a simple selection, not free text. A dropdown gives usable data instantly; a free-text answer requires someone to read and interpret it before it's actionable.

What happens after submission matters too

A confirmation message that sets a clear expectation, such as when someone will hear back, reduces the anxiety that leads people to submit the same form twice or reach out through another channel.

Routing the lead to the right person quickly is often a bigger lever on outcomes than anything about the form itself. A great form that sits in an inbox for three days loses much of its value.
